Rock Band 3 also introduced a 'pro' version of the instruments, but that is beyond the scope of this page. Check out the! I am 100% for this. It should be setup as a toggle, something like 'Disable Microphone Overdrive Activation' or 'Button Only Overdrive Activation' under the vocal options and then be toggled off for everyone by default, but then programmed like other toggles to remember your preference whenever it is changed. This was my original comment about this right after RB4 came out: (Please add) an option to the in-game vocals options menu to disable vocal activation for overdrive and only use push-button activation. This would be a godsend for playing harmonies. My friends and I don't even play harmonies for score because inevitably someone will blink too loudly and set off overdrive in a long break. Side note, is right about the old logitech mics having hyper sensitivity. The new one does handle background noise a little better. That said, the activation toggle is definitely the best solution to all of this. I would +1 the option of button-only OD. I think it's a good feature for several reasons - not just because of spontaneous OD but also because there are some people who will stream on the console and trying to interact with the viewers with their mic, it gets in the way as well. However, I do feel it should be disabled by default. However, question for OP. Are you using an old Logitech mic from a previous GH/RB/Karaoke game? If so, that also plays into account because the Mad Catz mics are less sensitive and less prone to these types of activations. Part of it though is also Harmonix has set the sensitivity for Rock Band 4 mics to be very, very high. Given these, I also wouldn't mind having the mic sensitivity adjustable again, much like it was in Rock Band 2. Since there isn't an option to disable vocal overdrive, there are a few things you can do to prevent accidental activation. Keep the handle of the mic pointed at the speakers. The 'business' end of the mic will pick up sounds directed at it. Use a mic stand to reduce handling noise. This is especially important with the Mad Catz mic. It does not have any sort of internal shock mount. The older Logitechs have a rubber gasket. If you're on a hard floor with people bouncing around, put the mic stand on a towel or rug. Get a foam pop filter. They greatly reduce breath and wind noise (ceiling fans). Plus they catch spit. Think about that the next time your mic is passed around at a party. Goodness, I'm always activating my overdrive with my Rock Band guitar by mistake! My whammy bar isn't even close to the Select/Back button and yet, for some reason, it's always randomly going off. Sometimes I barely even tilt it upwards just to get into a more comfortable position or move the strap on my shoulder, but then it goes off. Oh, and it has the greatest sense of timing ever. It always goes off when there's a huge break coming up. HA-Mine does that too-- it works fine most of the time though. BTW, it's my 2nd guitar, 1st one, whammy broke. Sent back to EA, they replaced it & were very nice about it.
